REVISITING THE POLDER MODEL: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SOCIAL COHESION AND INSTITUTIONAL TRUST IN THE CONTEMPORARY NETHERLANDS

This research investigates the contemporary transformation of social dynamics within the Netherlands, specifically evaluating the resilience of the "Polder Model" in an era of heightened global volatility. Historically characterized by consensus-based decision-making and a robust welfare state, the Dutch social framework is currently experiencing significant shifts driven by demographic diversification and socio-economic disparities. Utilizing a qualitative analysis of institutional trust and social policy, this article explores the dual challenges of maintaining egalitarian values while addressing the complexities of multicultural integration and the escalating housing crisis. The findings suggest that while the foundational principles of Dutch social cooperation remain intact, a strategic recalibration of social contracts is necessary to mitigate emerging polarizations. This study contributes to the broader discourse on European social models by providing insights into how traditional consensus cultures adapt to modern neoliberal and pluralistic pressures.
