Abstract

The outlook for global economic growth is predicted to be relatively stagnant with various risks and challenges. In its latest World Economic Outlook report April 2024, the IMF projects that the global economy will stagnate at 3.2% yoy in 2024. Meanwhile, the United States (US) economy will grow at 2.5% yoy in 2023, and is predicted to strengthen again. to 2.7% yoy in 2024 in line with strong domestic demand and US manufacturing activity which remains expansive. The continued strong performance of the US economy has been accompanied by a resurgence in the rate of inflation in recent months, giving rise to the potential for a delay in the start of cutting the Fed's benchmark interest rate (high for longer).
